Square bill rod suggestions

Hey guys,

i have some questions regarding square bill rods. Actually recommendations. I have a couple that I use exclusively.

1. IROD gen 2 Gabe’s rip rap special
2. Megabass orochi flat side special
3. Megabass orochi swingfire
4. Daiwa Tatula elite glass rod

i like composite over glass. I honestly think the irod gets the nod over the other ones.

Does anyone have any other preference or suggestions?

is the KVD tour rod worth the money?

i throw a bunch of WEC and 1.5 baits.

I have fished with the Flat side special,Tatula and Irod.

I use the Irod Stone Cold Squarebill rod for the 1.5 and WEC.I use the RipRap Special
for Dt4 or 6.I like the shorter length of the Stone Cold rod since I am usually throwing the squarebills
around and under things.

I like the Tatula for bigger squarebills(2.5)
I didn't care for the Flatside at all,my opinion.

Yah. I don’t care for my flat side specials at all. For anything. I actually need to get rid of them

Kistler 7' 2" MH Feel n' Reel has been my go to squarebill rod the last two seasons. I've owned close to a dozen other crankbait rods that I felt would fit the squarebill category but the Kistler has been the best so far.

Sounds like you're not looking for a beefy, spinnerbait type squarebill rod. I use the Powell 705CB for squarebilling where I'd throw a spinnerbait, around cover. For lighter, balsa type bills I use a Powell 725CB and it's really light and nice to use for long periods of time.

For the $$$ I have never been impressed with the KVD crankers and I was a long-time Quantum guy.

Kistler 6’ 11” Med Hvy and 7’ Hvy Feel N Reel are my favorite squarebill rods.
