Lightbulb Mercury 4.6L V8 250 ProXS repower on 2009 Z21 Intracoastal in process.

For those with interest in this new V8 I have a repower thread with details on the upgrade and will be adding direct performance comparisons to the previous 2 stroke via Smartcraft level 1 Merc monitor recorded readings.

I'm not one of those guys...
Boat #13. Engine #15. It needs to push my Ranger barge around under warranty for the next few years & stop/start when it's supposed to. The fact that the oil drinking, compressor driven Opti is gone I like.

I hate to ask, but what kind of price range did at upgrade cost. In a couple years, i hope to do the same upgrade.

Mike, what other things need to be changed or updated on your repower? Controls, smart craft, battery, etc?

On-line pricing is available at the Jaco's website. Toss another $500.00 at it for 2 more years warranty $300.00 for rigging. $60.00 for water pressure sensor. Existing PM1 AGM battery meets the engine requirements. I got the mechanical control engine so my 2009 Merc controls work fine but have to be set with the DTS. Ranger had enough harness to reach the now rear mounted 14 pin plug. My level 1 Merc monitor zeroed out hours with the new engine.
Throw in a spare drive belt, set of plugs, couple fuel filters as spares and your ready.

    Thanks guys.
Only thru 3.9 hours of break in so it's not ready for a comparison yet. The 1st 2 hours are the critical ones run at varied throttle up to 4500 rpms. Glad that's over. So far I'm impressed with the midrange acceleration and the engine is very quite when underway. Startup is much louder than the Opti. Chevy 396 with glass packs sound.
I am having to re-learn everything from jackplate position to start and running along with trim position (movement is slower than the opti). The DTS shifting is going to take some getting used too as you hear nothing when it goes in gear.
Not sure what it's doing inside but when I hook it up to flush it a high pitch growl starts up and continues till I'm done??? I do like the fact it generates 14.3 volts at idle.
    Current eval:
New 24P 3 blade Fury (23 will be here Fri)
    84 degrees 87% humidity
    4" chop
    Sea level brackish water
    WOT 5950 rpms 71.7 mph
    Water pressure 30.3 psi
The 23P should get the rpms up closer to the 6200 rpm mark. More seat time required.
I did have to stop and catch a few for dinner

    I assume for a Ranger Z518, Z519, Z520, Z521 that one one require the 20" Shaft Length ?
Digital controls to run SmartCraft ?

As you indicated, Jacos Marine has online pricing..... I hesitate to post their website lnk as I do not know if they are a BBC sponsor.
