    Bilge pump questions

99 Champion 187 Elite. Anybody know what was the standard size GPH bilge pump installed in this model? I'm wanting to replace mine. Is there a pump that's too big? 1100GPH a good size?

For a bilge pump, as it is with beer, I would think that bigger is better, Only problem I can foresee is the diameter of the hose and if it has the capacity to pump the 1100GPH.

Not a good idea to go bigger for the livewell fill pump as you can out pump the the drains overflow capabilities. Don't ask me how I know...

Did you change out the factory bilge pump for the 1100 gph bilge pump? Which pump do you have or at least what brand would be helpful. Thank you.

Just replaced mine 1100 GPH on the switched bilge pump and I added a 1300 GPH auto bilge pump sitting on a chair elevated just a little from the switched bilge pump. Direct wired to the battery with a 7.5 amp fuse...we get some HARD rain here...

These are both marked Mayfair 1000gph bilge pump. Does this boat have 2 bilge pumps?

Yes, one manual & one auto. Auto should be wired to the battery through the float switch. Manual is controlled from the switch on your panel.

I don't see his float switch Reggie, looks like two manuals, but looking at them I can't tell which direction the hoses are going. Reason is hydro-air pump hoses look like they are going back to the livewell.

The top hose in the pic is from the drain valve (white) for the livewell.

Next is a bilge pump that the hose runs forward under the fuel tank and then to I don't know where?
The next is the livewell pump? its laying sideways and its attached a to a black plastic fitting on the stern of the boat

The next one is another bilge pump? that the hose runs forward under the fuel tank as well and im not sure where it goes either.

That last big hose (bottom of pic) is Im not really sure...……. drain from the floor?

I always ran dual 3,000 manual pumps. When it’s time to go it’s time to go now.
They’d squirt water about thirty feet. Always fun just before takeoff.

3/4" ID on the pump outlets. The overflow maybe either 1" ID or 1 1/4". The two pumps about have to be bilge pumps as there is no inlets on them. Do you have any thru hull fittings coming out of the side of the hull? One way to verify would be to install the drain plug and fill the hull up with water and flip the switches on for the bilge pumps and see where the H20 comes out.

Agreed after seeing post 11. Was thinking maybe a remote float. I would definitely put one on one of them.

I purchased new cartridges for the pumps. How hard is the wiring to do? Don't you have to cut and resplice the wiring? These are mayfair pumps with the replaceable cartridge.

If you can hammer a nail into a board, then you can handle the wiring. Mine had slip disconnect plugs on then, plugged right to the factory plugs.

If you don't have the mate n lock plugs you can use water proof bullet connectors that you crimp and then hit them with a lighter to close the heat shrink on the connector. The new cartridge won't have anything on the wires just tinned ends. On the cartridge side I put a male on the brown power wire and a female on the black wire then the opposite on the boat side makes for a quick swap out the next time you have to replace it.
