    My daughter is doing St.Baldricks

I’m so proud of her. She has always been very giving and donating her money from winnings one time for the Fantasy Fishing! Sets up lemonade stands and donates to charity.

    That is AWESOME!

My wife got me hooked on St. Baldrick's her first year of teaching at the med school. Initially, they were struggling to get donations, basically just getting donations from other med students. When she found out about the fundraiser and looked into the charity, she told the students if they raised $10,000, she would shave her head. Things kind of skyrocketed from there. I think we wound up collecting $15K in donations that year. I got dragged in to be shaved for $1,000. Man, I'm glad I did it! I've actually kept mine trimmed very short ever since, except I'll let it grow for about 3 months leading up to the next shave event.

Last year, the big draw for our event was the microbiologist agreeing to hold our baby for X amount of money, to actually kiss our baby for Y amount of money, and then to change a dirty diaper for Z amount of money. Dr Colley is pretty known amongst the school for saying babies are mobile petri dishes and giving off the appearance of being anti-baby (when in reality he's a big teddy bear). We did a bunch of fundraisers where he'd dress up in a surgical gown, wearing the little booties and bonnet, eye/face shield, and a breathing mask. Spraying Lysol any time he got within a few feet of our baby. It really worked the students up to get donations. I think we raised about $25K this last year.

But the real stars for each of the years we have been participating with St. Baldrick's have been the honorees. We have had a really great time getting to know the kids and families afflicted by childhood cancer in our own community.

Thanks for posting Gabby's page...I'll be kicking something in later today

I forgot to mention it: you might ask the event coordinator if they have arranged to donate hair (Locks Of Love is an example but we used another service that doesn't charge)

I think that's who we used as well

We've got a lot of inventive people to boost donations; they do a lot more than the old standard bake sales and such. It's a tough area to get people to donate, as most in the community where we live don't have much. And the students have pretty much nickel and dimed their parents throughout undergrad and now med school.
