    198 elite prop

Whats the best prop for getting holeshot ... I'm running a 2008 198 elite , Yamaha hpdi 225 ... Bobs hyd plate 10" I believe. not concerned at all about top end as I run Erie constantly and our biggest inland lake is like 3k acres. I have a 3blade now I'm not sure exactly what it is but runs 71mph with me, gear & half tank ... TIA

Holeshot only??? I’d have to say a 5 blade prop.

I would run a 4 blade. Good hole shot and rough Water handling.

Sounds like you are running pretty good with your current set-up. Each boat, even same models, is an individual. Some do better than others even with the same prop. You might, or you might not, get a better hole-shot with a 4 blade. Be advised that a 4 blade should be one pitch lower than your 3 blade.

For hole-shot, I did not have good luck with a 4 blade 25p Trophy. I have a 3 sec hole-shot and 71.9 top end with my 26p Tempest Plus..

2008 200 Elite W/Merc 225 Opti Pro XS. 25 Tempest Plus, 26 Trophy Plus, and 25 Bravo I XS, all worked by Mark Croxton. By far the best hole shot and big water prop is the Bravo I XS. Trophy has a good hole shot but low top end speeds. Tempest has an ok hole shot but is the fastest of the three.

Close, but no cigar. If he's running Erie, he really should consider a 4 blade. I fish Lake Michigan connected waters and like them much better. You can keep the boat up on plane at lower speeds and that's a big plus when you're in the rough stuff. Love my Tempest for inland lakes, but when you're navigating 3 ft plus rollers, give me a 4 Blade

ive ran my 3 blade for several years and I'm just over it when I have fuel , partner , gear and livewells full. I know all of that will slow any boat down esp with 4 batteries , 2 10ft blades but this thing wont get on pad without partner running to the bow no matter where I set my jackplate/trim....I added 140# of sand to the front and it helped a lot but that was just to get me by for my last trip for BFL on St Clair. Didn't know if my co was going to be able to run to the bow everytime we moved lol

Hahaha, you shouldn't have to fish like that. If you know someone with a Bravo I XS or a Razor 4 see if they will let you try them out. Big difference in Hole shot and midrange power.

I’ve run a lot of them on my 198. Fury4 was real good, Bravo was pretty good, Trophy plus was good; but in the end I just went back to the tempest. It just seems to do the best overall. I think you might prefer the bravo with all that weight, Fury4 doesn’t seem to like a heavy boat.

Just drop down two inches of pitch on your prop. All the holeshot you’ll ever want.

Have to be certain your motor is on point first. Have your current prop cupped. I run same boat and mine NOW pops out like nobody's business. It use to be a dog at hole shot.

Lea recommended a shop by Richmond and they worked my Tempest 25 and I made a HUGE difference in hole. Boat runs 70 light load but usually about 66-67 ready.

It has a bit of blowout but easily managed.

25 Bravo XS would be my selection if you are looking for hole shot and handling.

The prop shop James referenced is Robbie Patterson. He is located with Sanderson Marine, in Chester VA.

Yep it was a great recommendation and it was perfect. I could not be happier with them and price was great!
