    Installing a new model pedal tray in an older RT188

    I have a 2014 RT188 with the original pedal tray so it does not have the tool holder, cup holder, etc. that was added in 2015 models. Has anyone installed one of the newer pedal trays into a 2013 or 2014 model? Any issues in doing so and what tool(s) did you use for cutting the deck? I've ordered a new trolling motor for my RT188 to replace the 14 year old Motorguide I had taken from a previous boat and after nearly five years of excellent service I think the boat deserves the new pedal tray. Who knows, maybe I will go crazy and install some LED lights.

    I remembered that Gray did his. I think he is screen name Gray1173. If this link works, it should take you to where he posted about how he did it. If not, go to the owners list above and shoot him a message or backtrack to his description.

    Yes, I have photos to post tomorrow. It all went well and looks really nice and since I had the pan out it was a perfect opportunity to install a new Fortrex to replace my 14 year old Motor Guide that was getting weak and really looking beat up. Caught my first bass this evening using the new motor.

    On Saturday I removed my pedal tray on my 2014 RT188 and installed the newer version that became standard in 2015. Overall it was a very easy modification and I'm sure having done one I could do a second tray in less than an hour. I won't say how long this one took as I used the occasion to replace my 14 year old Motorguide that I had taken off a previous boat with a new Fortrex 80. A few pointers;
    1. If using a Dremel-type oscillating tool be sure to have on hand a carbide tipped cutting blade. The typical "wood and nail" blades will wear out quickly. I burned through the two I had before going to the hardware store where I bought a carbide tipped blade that ate through the aluminum like butter.
    2. I was a bit surprised that in addition to cutting away decking towards the front of the boat I also had to take off about 5/8" inch at the other end towards the seat post. No big deal.
    3. I made no templates, really not necessary for this install.
    4. I did move the switch plate for the NAV and TRIM button up 1/4" and drilled new holes for the mounting screws to make for clearance from the pedal tray lip.
    5. If you have the tray out check out the status of the connection box for your trolling motor. My connections were in terrible shape and I replace - this surprised me (photo included).
    6. Enjoy and go fish! After cleaning everything up I went to the ramp and drove the boat back to the dock, and went out early on Sunday to catch - a flathead? On a spinnerbait? And it puked up a small green sunfish in the net that I tossed into the water and I am no lying - IT SWAM AWAY! Later I caught a nice largemouth. Photos attached.

    Looks great. I'm going to have to break down and do that myself.
