Out of curiosity sake, I wonder what it costs to build a new hull from scratch. I mean the costs of design to prototype to finished product?
It's no secret, most of Chargers hulls have been in production for a long time, at least compared to other manufacturers that change their hull designs every few years or so. I would think taking an existing out of production hull from an out of business manufacturer, splashing it, changing the topcap around and then sticking Charger stickers on it would be a lot cheaper than the expense of deciding the 296 or 396 hulls are outdated and need to be replaced and then redesigning brand new hulls.
I bet it costs at least $200-250k to build a mold from scratch, but I'm no expert.
We all agree that the Charger top cap needs to be updated, but I disagree that other brands are changing theirs ever couple years. Moving a cooler, adding a day box, changing a modular console, etc.. does not mean a new hull in my opinion.
Good points though Cart
Charger has the base hull which is pretty easy to change ,now starting from scratch like the 797 will take time and money plus running time on the lake.I know there were 3 797 built and scraped one had a 6 series cap just a lot wider with the 6 series consoles.R and D takes time and money.797 would be a good fit to the 210 198 If all 3 used the same consoles and lids.
Pay scale dictates the quality of employee as much as location of the factory [richland, mo.] which if you have ever been near is not a very talent rich area. I myself would work there, i have always loved charger and been friends with the dorris's for many years however they would have to pay me far more than their comfortable with.
Ya I can’t take a pay cut either lol!
