    Strange popping sound from trim

This popping sound occurs when trimming down as engine strikes trim rods and they begin to compress rod into cylinder. Noticed when checking PTP measurement yesterday. This is new and I hadn't heard it until yesterday. Seems like it’s the port trim rod area. What could this be and what should I check? I’ve fully extended and compressed rods and it still continues. I don’t see where the nearest grease fitting has any thing to do with this movement. Any ideas?

A little dab of 24-C rubbed on the balls every now and then will make em work better and they wont squeak at you..

Ok seems simple enough...typically not the case for me. Thank you.

The striker plates may be damaged now. You may need to replace those too. They are cheap too.

This I can handle. Good news. I was concerned it was something way more serious. Thanks for the help.

+1 on the striker plates. Mine was making the same noise and I replaced those. Problem solved. They are the two "plates" that contact the trim rods. They are mounted on the swivel bracket. They are about the size of a quarter. Easy removal and reinstall.

Yes I looked them today. Easy to take off. Hard to say if they “looked” bad. A small worn spot was visible but for what $10ea.? Why not just replace and get on with it. I’m guessing there really shouldn’t be any appearance of friction on these areas if greased properly. From here on I’ll be much more diligent greasing them.
