    Question 150 BlackMax on a 1990 Ranger 390v?

Needing some thoughts on if a 150 Mercury Black Max will be good on my 390v. I had a 200 BlackMax before that has recently blown up and can get the 150 at a good price if it’s in good condition. I just wasn’t sure if the 150 would be enough motor to still get out of the hole ok. I’m not a speed demon so I’m not concerned about running 60+ or anything. Thanks for the help.

I remember Guys in this area running Johnson and Yamaha 150s on 390vs. Prop accordingly.

I went through a similar situation. Had a 200 XRi on my 392V and it ate a cylinder. Got a great deal on a used 150 ProXS that I couldn't pass up. Hole shot was just fine (3 - 5 seconds depending on load). I ran a 23 Tempest plus with one large plug in, 6 inch jack plate at 3.25 in PtoP.
