    IMHO what Mercury recommends for their four strokes is way better that Yamaha's directions. Idling a new engine for hours is a great way to glaze cyl walls and impede a good break in. Want proof look at all the issues. CJ

    Yes, follow the Mercury Marine procedure. To not do so is to subject your motor to the risk of it "making" oil.

    Funny how Yamaha can persist in using the two stroke break in procedure for their four strokes, all the while suffering complaint after complaint about the making oil problem.
