    Selecting a 115hp outboard

Considering repowering a glass bass boat rated at 130hp, 'cause I may have to,
want a 4 str for trolling, boat is in great shape and I like it, I'm cheap, just 'cause.

    Currently Eliminated:
    Honda 115 - too heavy
Tohatsu 115 - no dealer close
Suzuki 115 - a bit heavy, no dealer close
ETEC 115 - 2 stroke and had a bad experience with one

    Still in the Running:
    Yamaha - F115b or SHO 115
Mercury Pro xs 115 4 str - CT or non-CT

Thoughts/experiences from current or prior owners, having a friend with one, mechanics, sales folk, etc.

    Thanks

If you can hold tight for a bit, there have been rumors of a new 135 coming to market.

    I'm not a mathematician, but isn't 135 greater than 130?..........

I’d go with the 115 ProXS or one of the Yamaha outboards in the 115 class

Would love a 135 (remember the Black Max 135), but, want to stay cool
with the water cops. Weight also an issue.

    Now, a light-weight SHO 130 or Pro xs 130 ........................

I have the Yamaha 115. It's the best engine I've ever run. Stats quickly every time, and idles down to nothing for hours.

I had a f115 on my jet sled up north. Put 300 trouble free hours on it with just basic maintenance. Have a 175 sho now but would buy a 115 sho in a heartbeat along with the f115.

The SHO 115 puts out about 125 hp , same with the ProXS 115.

Repowered my VS 175 with E-tec 115 H.O. Love it. Looked at Yamaha and Merc 4 strokes, stayed with BRP. The suggestions for 135 are over the rating. The new E-tec replaced an old one. Factor in the new control cost.

I choose the Yahama 115 four stroke in 2002, has not given me any trouble at all. I'm happy with it.

All my stuff is old, but had a chance to talk with a gentleman on caddo who has a MERC 115 pro Xs and he loves it. Watched him take off and that thing was quiet as hell. Wish I could afford one

Same here. Best engine ever. We spend a lot of time on the water in Florida. Go to the salt water guys where they run and troll for hours on end, where the have to get home no matter, and look at their boats in the slips....Yamaha and Suzuki dominate......and I mean dominate.

That said, for fresh water where I had decent service available, it would be hard for me to ignore the ten year warranty that Evinrude has right now.

Both are good engines but I'd vote for the Mercury 115 Pro XS CT. Great engine all the way around and probably quite a bit less expensive than the Yamaha.
