    Totalscan Transducer Location

Would it be ok drilling into the fiberglass and mounting my totalscan transducer just beneath the center of my jack plate? I’ve seen others do it before, I guess I’m just nervous about drilling into the boat.

My old LSS2 transducer was mounted to my jack plate, but it’s gonna cost like $150 just for a jackplate mount for the totalscan and I’d rather not.

    Thanks.

Countersink the drill holes to prevent cracking with a #2 phillips head and use silicone in the holes and you will be good. In terms of location, I'm about to move my transducer to that same location. Currently mounted to the right of the jackplate on the transom.

Put a hole shot plate on your jack plate and mount it to that. Personally i would spend the money on the plate before i would ever drill holes in my boat.

Just mounted my LSS2 transducer below the jack plate and I too didn’t want to drill into my boat but I figured 2 holes filled with silicone wasn’tgping to do any harm. Perfect location for it too. Heck, guys drill into their boats all the time to mount locators and ram mounts. Not much different if done right.

Gonna get mine mounted sometime within the next few days and do it like Murph has it. I’ve been procrastinating but finally got all the wiring run this weekend. I’d normally have it done a lot sooner but I don’t fish a whole lot this time of year.

Hold the phone. If you mount the Totalscan the way those LSS are mounted, your 2D sonar will never work on plane. The transducer must be mounted on the lowest point at the pad so the transducer face is just below the bottom of the boat.

If you're not using the Totalscan's 2D element, then it doesn't matter where you put it as long as it's under water. I mount LSSs just under the jackplate which helps protect it from stumps when I jump one.

IMHO (not that it means jack). The Totalscan transducer is not the most ideal set up for a bass boat. Issues with mounting locations, loss of on plane depth monitoring at the helm, or knocking the thing off are just to name a few. The LSS2 on a jackplate mount (brand of choice) coupled with a thru the hull puck for on plane and 2D sonar is more versatile. I ended up doing this along with an HDI at the bow, networked, and new NMEA backbone with temp senors when I upgraded and have zero issues when scanning at idle or on plane. Obviously structure scan is not usable which on plane but that works fine for me.

I agree. Makes me believe Lowerance does not know or does not care about our application.

That is a TERRIBLE location. Directly in front of the motor? Good thing this is not a fast boat or you would be making bat-turns here and there. Every installation guide I have ever seen recommends against a centerline install for the transducer.
