Poor performance after new lower unit 2002 225 OptiMax

    SN: OT471479 2002 225 OptiMax.

Had a lower unit claim approx 2 months ago & after all the Insurance red tape finally got my rig back w/ a brand new lower unit. After being set up for 2 months, my 1st trip out I had extemely poor hole shot performance; figured it may be due to my spark plugs, which were fouled. Replaced plugs & fuel filter. Today (07/13) still absolute terrible hole shot, taking about 2-4 minutes at times to turn over enough to get on plane. Top end is there once on plane. Is it possible that the new lower unit (SN: 85933A13; + Gear HSG COMP/LG Black 1.75:1. RUN: G480301301) installed is not the correct one for my motor??

    Any input is greatly appreciated

Did they only remove/replace lower unit or did you replace control cables too? If so, maybe need hotfoot adjusted to reach full throttle. Maybe prop needs to be worked. I have never had two of the same perform the same.

Going to get a spark plug tester & check my engine coils next. If they’re good, injectors may be fouled. 345hrs, probably past due for Fuel Rail haul over...

It sounds to me like a simple PVS plug adjustment is needed. If they are all plugged then your holeshot is going to absolutely suck. Each prop is going to be different, even though it is the same pitch and model, so you will have to adjust accordingly. How many PVS holes are plugged and with what size plugs?

Was a strike with a fixed or underwater object involved here?

This is very odd. Following... let us know what the final results are. slow to reach rpms and torque to pull you out of the hole. under load it is having issues. Can you put the old prop that you have always used back on rather than the new one and see if there is a difference. i think it is the prop.

I wish I could. Prop suffered severe damage when I hit underwater obstacle. Lost an entire ear on the prop

Yes, exact prop. It was repaired(knicks, etc but no blue print work/etc performed). This new Tempest I have is flawless. I have a 25 Fury too; w/ new lower unit, my Fury has poor results too that I didn’t prior to damage
