    Ethernet switch - power question

I installed my ethernet switch and wired it directly to the battery.

When my fish finders and trolling motor are turned off, no data is being sent to the switch. Is it still using power? Obviously it'd be a safer bet to wire it to a master switch, but has anyone had issues wiring it directly to the battery?

It is still drawing power and will run the battery down over time .... you should put in a switch for it ... or a fuse you can easily remove.

Don't know anything about NMEA 2000 setup, but if it takes power there will be some parasitic current draw.

What's your opinion on the compass/heading puck for an Ultrex? Should it be on a master cut-off also?

The Minnkota heading sensor is not GPS, just a compass. It draws power also since it has a power cord.
