So, I was kicking around the idea of selling my 300x to buy a new 300xs with 5 years of warranty. Unfortunately, we just don't have the water up here to really let the x perform. I've had it over 90 ONCE in 2 1/2 years. I do a lot of graphing and idling so was thinking about going to a 300xs. I know everyone loves the 300x (me included) and the 300xs has had some compressor problems but with 5 years of warranty I'm VERY tempted. Jeff from Seven Lakes Marine fixed my jackplate and pressure tested the lower in the spring. He had a chance to run it for a little while. The cowl is perfect...136 hours...sportmaster 1.62's with a tiny bit of rash on the bottom of the skeg when my battery went bad and I had to drag it thru a river to get to the ramp without being able to trim it. Jeff from Seven Lakes said he'd have the ability to remove it and crate it as well. The 300xs will have sportmaster with 1.75's. I'm sure the low and mid range will be awesome with those gears but would I still be able to run 90mph? Don't need to run mid 90's but would like the ability to run close to 90...anyone come from a 300x to a 300xs? Pros? Cons? Regrets? This is a boat (allegedly) that Paul N drove to 97 back when it was first bought but I spoke to Paul and he cant be sure...I'm REALLY torn.
These are compression numbers from last fall:
1 135psi
2 135
3 133
4 135
5 136
6 134
Having said all that I'm taking my family out tomorrow for a day of fishing/boating so there's a chance I completely change my mind on this whole deal!
