    RT178/188 Trailer Back up Light Addition

    If you have the newer RT trailers with the 6 inch oval tail lights, you can integrate back up lights fairly easily. The blue wire in the 5 pin wiring harness is powered when your vehicle is in reverse. In the older trailers, this wire only went to the brake solenoid on the Master Cylinder. But, on the new trailers this blue wire goes to both tail light connectors. That being the case you can replace the existing LED tail light with one with integrated back up lights. You will also need to splice in an additional connector.
    My trailer is a 2018 made by EZ-Loader so I don’t know when Ranger started integrating the blue wire into the tail light wiring harness, but you should be able to see it like In the pic.

    I have been wanting to add some to mine so I will give it a look see and confirm if my 2016 Trailer has it or not.

    I have not had a chance yet I am recovering from back Surgery so it may be 3 or 4 weeks before I can get back on the water.

    I just checked my '16 and it does not have this on it.

    My trailer say Fishing Holdings Co on it if that matters.

    my trailer was one of the first made by EZ-Loader, it is possible that they made the change to the wiring harness. If I get a chance I will visit my local dealer, he had several new boats on Ranger trailers and only one from EZ-Loader.

    I have a EZ Loader factory here in town so if they made and change I could stop by and see if I could get a new wiring harness from them.

    Of course I could just make one or just add the extra wire to my 4 pin and hook them up.

    Hope you heal up soon. Thats pretty cool that the harness is there to accomidate the accessory. I ran a new wire when i rewired mine which wasnt bad but be nice for a plug and play install like this. Curious to see how bright they are when you can.

    I was at the dealer today and was able to compare the Ranger built trailers to the new EZ-Loader ones.
    The first pic, is the wiring harness on the EZ-Loader while the second is the Ranger built trailer. There is one harness running down each side of the trailer.
    The blue wire in the first pic carries the backup light circuit to each tail light connector.

    Update - After several trips to different ramps, I have decided that these back up lights are not bright enough for me.
    I remember seeing a post on here about some all-in-one LED’s that the entire light turned white for the back up light. Would appreciate a link if someone has one.

    Is adding a light an option?

    I added these to boat trailer -

    Alpeena from Walmart, 6 LED's each light.

    I just mounted a cube, 4 LED on the back of my truck, nVision from O'Reilly's. It's quite bright also. Id planned on mounting two on the truck, I think one will be sufficient though.

    Thanks for the post, this is an option if I can’t find the 6 inch oval that will fit my opening. I can mount them as you did or on the step just above the tail light. They are bright!! That’s what I am looking for.

    THose all in one lights are pretty slick. Nice not to have any ither lights mounted anywhere. And those are much brighter. I think backup lights are a must.
