    Spinning reel line

So I got this bright idear to rig me up a spinning outfit for Shaky Heads and maybe some light Texas Rigs.

Looks like the consensus for line on these things is that Seaguar Tatsu.

I AM NOT SPENDING 50 F'N dollars on a spool of line.

I think possibly someone with a "following" said it was good stuff and then the herd fell in line. Same for a lot of other things.
Not disputing it ain't good line, but I ain't paying that much for fishing line.

Another thing I have proved to myself over the years is the "braid with a fluoro leader" thing. Bullshit.
I use 10lb YELLOW Power Pro braid on all my Crappie rods straight to 1/16oz jigs and it don't bother them fish one bit. And I've used it in all conditions.

So, any y'all that throw an egg beater, what line ya favoring?

I use 20# braid (Suffix) with a 6# - 8# copolymer leader. 20# braid cuts down on wind knot issues. Leader not because I think fish can see braid but to make breaking off hang-ups much easier and saves the braid.

Saw a half price, multi thousand yard spool of 8 lb Maxima at BPS yesterday I was tempted to buy, was priced less than $50.

Prolly Kim Stricker (Hook n' Look), think he uses it on all his spinning rigs.

20# Power Pro for me. Did use a 10# flouro leader down at Amistad on a Neko rig and always use use it on my drop shot. Don't throw a shakey head much. Don't think WB uses flouro on his shakey head.

I was planning on 8-10lb max.
I know anything but braid gets harder to manage on an egg beater.

Boogieman is right about the trying to break off braid. No big deal with my Crappie jigs and sickle hooks. I can straighten them, but a 1/8 - 1/4 oz Shaky head jig would be another story.

Hell I may just spool on some clear blue Stren mono and see how it does.

Every time I've spooled a spinning reel with mono or flouro, I end up wanting to go Ike ...

FWIW, I use 20# PowerPro on spinning reels and sometimes a flouro or pline leader, size depending on what I’m doing with it. Light hooks straighten like you said.

I have 3 wands outside the camp on the porch in six mile. Been trying to get someone to steal them for a few years. Only thing that worked for me is braid to flouro. Now I just keep a med action rod spooled with 10 or 12 lb flouro and use that. Can't say it catches more or less but it is sure a lot more enjoyable to use.

Same here actually. I got all rigged for the famed drop shot 3 yrs ago, and that rig rarely makes from the shed to the boat.
I been throwin shaky heads on a Falcon Cara T7 finesse jig rod and a Chronarch MG50, and loved it, till I lost balance in rough water and stomped on the poor thing, and snapped it.

Arthritis in my thumbs and wrists has lead me to try something that requires less effort, and this will get the rod in my right hand which pains me less than my left.

At the end of the day I'd just rather fish for manly fish with manly equipment and leave the egg beaters to women and children.
