It has it's days for sure. It's the rewarding aspects of the job that keep me going...
I remember two "rewarding"/feel good incidents as if they were yesterday... First was when I was working in the projects and a local user/dealer that I was familiar with robbed a poor old guy getting off the bus going to church one Wednesday afternoon. I was a block away when the call came out and spotted him in an alley going through the man's wallet. He saw me and took off running and I gave chase. We hopped a couple fences and he ended up ghosting me. I got on the radio and had my partners set up a perimeter and along with K-9 we were able to locate him hiding in a shed in someone's back yard. K-9 got a good bite and he was tased multiple times, then went to jail where his parole was revoked and he ended up serving a decent amount of time in jail.
The second was a lady who got her purse snatched while getting a movie from a RedBox at a local Walgreen's. She wet her pants and was crying when I arrived on scene. I watched the surveillance footage and was able to find some distinguishable markings on the work van the suspect fled in. A couple weeks later, I locate the van and conducted a traffic stop on it and was able to get the suspects info from the female driver. He was charged and also got his probation revoked and spent more than just a night in jail.
