Possible Restoration Project - Ranger 518 SVX

Posted this in the Ranger forum also, but I have an opportunity to buy a 518VX and am contemplating making what the seller may deem a ridiculous offer, but I want to get feel for whether it is worth it to those who have done this before?

    Specs:
    1999 519SVX Hull
    Seats are shot
Compartment lids are mostly shot - broken in half, might as well replace all of them.
Top Cap Gel Coat was recleared and is peeling but the worst of it is the divots and cracks in the cap.
Front deck is likely delaminated and is spongy
Engine looks to be digging in to transom ever so slightly.

    Single Axle Ranger Trail
    Bunk Mounts are rotted off
Jack is welded to the front of the trailer
Fenders are cracked and faded badly

Motor is an Evinrude Ram 200
Unknown condition, says the lower unit is locked up, but spun freely in Neutral and went into gear easily.
    Cowling is Cracked.

Trolling Motor is on the boat but who knows condition...

So my question is, for you fiberglass repair folks out there, I'm concerned about soggy foam and possible composite delamination in more important structural areas as the boat was obviously left out in the cold...is that a thing?

Even with all of this, I'm thinking of offering about $1K....wouldn't pay more....would you?

If you do it Right, you will spend almost as much as buying one in good shape.

I'd look for another opportunity. That sounds scary across the board...

Unless you look forward to working on a project there is always 3 times more wrong with it than you can see. Personally I’d buy a nice used boat and fix whatever needs work. There is a lot of guys that take care of there rigs out there.

I wouldn't get involved with something like that unless I had a good boat to fish out of already. That sounds like a passion project type of deal fit for a stubborn retired dude.

I am in the middle of restoring a 2000 518 VX, I am about 10K in and I haven't touched the motor or trailer yet.

More work and money than you want to put into it.

Yeah, real shame someone let it get to this point, but I agree with all, while I can do all of this work, when you combine everything it looks pretty bleak.

I saw the listing for that boat. They've got it way overpriced and with everything wrong with it I wouldn't give them what I paid for my 360 v project. Listen to the other guys you'll be in it so deep by the time you have everything fixed you could've bought one in good shape to begin with ( not to mention the time it takes).

Yeah, it sounded pretty fair based on the 10' pics, i was thinking I'd offer 1500-2000 based on what the ad said, but in person, whew.....not much else to say....
