The Potomac is a big, dangerous river. While it may look serene, those on this site know the risks and dangers associated with wAter, tides, wind, debris. It is our responsibility to say something to those we see risking themselves--more than once I have told folks at the ramp how rough it is, as they launch their 15' jonboat, loaded with coolers, rods, kids...and no life jackets.

Most boating fatalities have a common theme- alcohol, no life jackets, no kill switch. I'll never understand it.

Evolution does not necessarily reward intelligence. With no natural predators to thin the herd it began to reward those who reproduced the most and left the intelligent to become an endangered species. These "non-accident" events are equalizers.
