P2p at 3", factory jp, solo, light load, wells empty, 1/3 tank of gas. No poles or talons. Very light load for a bass boat.

    I m looking at az18 w/ a 175 2S. I’m glad I saw this before. Think I’ll stick with it.

That's rediculous.....my 2015 Z7 has a 175 and will get 2 people and a lot of fuel/gear to 68.5 GPS! I went DOWN to a 23 pitch 4 blade knowing I would lose top end but was taking a heavy load on vacation.....2 guys, full tank, full livewell, 2 talons and a lot more......62 GPS.

I think once someone gets one and gets the right prop and jackplate setup that it will run very good.

Two strokes with the same horsepower will outperform any 4stroke from the same manufacturer currently. If that wasn’t the case they would’ve dropped the 2s a long time ago. Overtime with engineering improvements they’ll catch up. They’ve made great strides so far. Only a matter of time.

I think the SHO outperformed the HPDI. And from what I understand the V8 4 Stroke 250 outperforms the 2 Stroke. Modern technology has truly caught up to the situation.

I haven’t seen any numbers to support that. Would be interested to see

I don’t know of anyone that has said the 250 HPDI was faster than the 250 SHO. Do you have any numbers to support the opposite since you made the original claim?

    The engineering is done.
    175hp is 175hp, 250hp is 250hp. Doesn't matter if it's 2-stroke or 4-stroke.
Horsepower rating for outboards are a joke anyway. The marine industry should be honest and rate motors by displacement, like every other motor based sport.
The difference is the displacement vs. weight. Add another liter to the displacement of all the 4-strokes, make it light, call it a 250hp (wink, wink, nod, nod) and people will be saying "what's a 2-stroke"?
There's a reason why 250 2-strokes run in the 450 4-stroke motocross class. It takes that much extra displacement to run with a 2-stroke. You have to add displacement to a 4-stroke to get it to run with a 2-stroke of the same rating.
People want a motor that will run lean for more than 15 seconds w/o melting a piston, hence the move to 4-strokes.

You can get the 175 in a ProXS version with the big V-8. The 2 stroke 175 won't out-perform that.

Is it a 175 ProXS or a 175 four stroke? Two completely different motors.

I’ll admit I know squat about Yamaha’s. Heard great things about the sho. Never really saw any numbers on the two so maybe I overstepped on Yamaha. Should’ve stuck with mercury. Lol. Do you have anything to support your theory other Than wha the manufacturers say. There’s a good post by Mikeexpress who's doing a real world comparison on the 250 upgrade for mercury right now. Excited to see the results. .

Someone correct me if I’m wrong but I thought the new 175 is still a v6. Do you have any real world numbers on this?

I was looking on the Blazer forum and one poster indicted that on Blazer Facebook site there is a comparison indicating that the new Pro XS V8 4S was about 1 to 2 mph faster than the 2S. Also Ken Smith video his new boat on YouTube and said the Pro XS 4S was faster and had a better holeshot than the 2S. Bass Cat tested the engine as well and has on the info on their website. But to each his own.

    Mercury site shows a 175 four stroke V-6 and a 175 ProXS 4-stroke V-8.

So they have two options for the 175? Seems expensive from a manufacturers point of view. Interested to see how this pans out.

It's actually not expensive. The 175 to 250 ProXS are identical motors. The 175 is limited to 175 by computer programming; I'm don't know if the cams are the same, but even if the cams were different, there's no increase in cost.

The Mercury site shows the 175 Pro XS as a V-6, not a V-8.
