I can’t wait to hear the numbers myself. I will be ordering one in October.

.According to the online builder the 175 Pro XS is $1730 more than the 150 Pro XS. Not sure if a couple of mph is worth that

The problem is there is no mph gain currently over a 150hp pro xs 🤷🏻*♂️

I called Mercury. I asked them about what sort of performance increases we should see out of the new 175 Pro XS four stroke vs the 175 OptiMax. The rep told me that the new motor should easily be 2-3 mph faster than the old (no longer making) 175 OptiMax. They also said it is a lot lighter. When I went on the online builder, to go from the 150 (standard) motor to the new 175 Pro XS it was a price jump of I believe $2800. That is a steep price increase but I think I’m the long run that extra 5-6 mph at top end (over the standard 150) will be worth it.

I have no doubt this is what Mercury told you. I am a natural skeptic so hear me out. Do you think they were going to say its performs the same or it almost perfors as good as the 2 stroke if that were the actual true case. If it is lighter then it is in fact lighter. As for claiming performance to be 2-3 mph faster I would wait to see what a non Mercury employee, non Mercury pro staff member or someone who has zero affiliation has to say. I like to get my opinions from the average working Joe who has zero affiliation with said product. I am not bashing Mercury in no way because this is how I research all new products regardless of manufacturer brand...Prime example KVD said he gets 20 mpg with his Tundra and most everyone everyone claims 15-16 or less. Everyone else in not on "Team Toyota" and KVD gets paid to promote. Ask yourself which one has a more honest opinion. The new 175 may be an awesome performance motor but it might just be average or possibly even sub par. I would not let Mercury persuade my decision...find multiple opinions from average Joe Blow and then decide

No doubt, you are correct. There is no better report than someone who actually paid for and is using whatever product it is. I’m hoping that before the first week of October when I expect to place my order that some real world users will post their experiences on here. Especially with the cost difference between the 150 and the 175.

Also be worried about the "I spent the money and it was worth it" ---"other wise I'm a sucker for paying extra" kind of people. Some will say something is the best then shortly after get something that is better, maybe not on big motors though

Even the guys with the bullet boat with 300r said mercury didn't give them any time to test props, there results were not better than the 300 2stroke but they (bullet boat test drivers) believe the motor is the real deal and will outperform and outlast the 2stroke.

So im going with probably not the correct prop

One would think with the 175 4 stroke being a higher torque motor and the different final drive gear it will turn the prop at a higher RPM. This should translate into a faster top end.

My buddies came with a 22p tempest and it turned 5900 and ran 63mph. Tried a fury 3 24p and it ran 62mph at 5100 rpms. *♂️

I would be disappointed in 62-63 mph with a 175 HP engine on a 18 ft boat. My old 2009 Z7 (18’ 8”) with a 150 efi will hit 60 mph. I wonder what speed a 175 SHO would get on a Z18? Folks will probably tweak with their setups and get back up to at least 65 mph with the new Z18/175 four stroke combos. Hope so for the new owners.

We swapped props and adjusted the pad to prop with not much improvement. Once it cools off it might hit 64mph.
