    2005 hpdi 300 troubleshooting

Had this motor for a long time, close to 800 hrs. Little to no problems. This morning i noticed the tach was off 1000 rpms compared to,the interface rpms through my Lowrance hds. Motor is sluggish, won't turn much more than 5000. Whatever has changed just started this morning. Not missing at all, at least that I can tell. ideas?

check plugs and compression first, then most will say to change all the filters even the small basket filters. Seems to be a common problem. After that it could be a team of things. I'm chasing something similar myself

I have the filters done every 100 hrs. Odd that the Rach went 1000 over about the same time the loss of power started

Compression is good. Looking at the low pressure pumps. 735 hours they haven't been replaced. May replace all 3 Friday.

Low pressure pumps I feel are a maintenance item that should be replaced every so often. They are cheap and easy to do.

Today's the first time I've been able to run it since I replaced the low pressure pumps. It did help, but that's not it. Still runs as good as ever on the low end and mid range. I've lost about 1000 rpms at wot.. fuel usage is up a lot. I changed the plugs when this started and I'm seeing some difference in two of the new ones. Is there a way to test the coils? Starting to think electrical.

Have you had the injectors cleaned / flow tested ? If not they need to be done. You can send to hydrotech and other shops. It’s just a matter of taking them off to send out

Bottom 2. The insulator is darker around the bottom, almost immdiately, within 2-3 hours of running.

I have seen stators flake out like this in snowmobiles but boats usually die. Get resistance specs on it and a quick test will rule it out. They usually act up when hot also. If you suspect the coils move them around and see if the problem follows them. I cant remember if the HPDI's coils are cyl dedicated, I don't believe so but check. Been awhile since I had one apart. if they are the same PN that trick will save you a few $$$ if they are not bad. CJ
