    Dobyns champ spinning

I’m looking for a new spinning rod for throwing nekos and wacky senkos primarily and dropshots and Ned rigs secondary. I can’t decide between the Dobyns champion 702sf or the 703sf. Anyone have experience with these 2 rods?

Yes the 702 is awesome for Ned rigs and drop shot. It has a really light tip. The 703 would excel at the other two. You could make it work though. Just my opinion

I use the 703sf for Wacky, Neko, and Ned rigs. Don’t drop shot but I have read the 702sf is what you want for that.

Thanks for the input, I’m at a bit of a crossroads. I throw neds and wacky senkos more than dropshots so maybe I should look into the 703.

I have a 703 in the Sierra line and it can do all of them but its not the greatest a vertical drop shotting, it works fine for casting a drop shot. I choose my rod power more based on the hook I am using than the technique I am fishing though. I will fish a wacky Senko on a ML if I am fishing a really thin wire hook and a drop shot on a MH if I am using a heavier wire wide gap hook near cover. I often think people will fish the wrong power rod because it has a certain technique on it.

I would go with the 703sf for that combo of applications. I actually use the 703sf as my main dropshot rod unless I'm fishing ultra finesse in the winter months.

I believe I will be going with the 703sf. I talked to the guys over at Dobyns and they seemed to think it would be better suited for what I’m looking to do with it.

702 = open hook lures 703 = texas rigged plastics. The Sierra is an awesome rod for the mony too, I would say 90% of the champion!

I don't think you will be sorry I have a old Champion 703 and a DX 703. They are the only spinning rods I own . I drop shot, shaky head and Neko rig them all the time. If I bought another tomorrow it would also be a 703.

So would a Champion Extreme HP 703 be considered a "do it all" spinning rod? I use an apple pealar for shakey head, Ned, drop shot, etc.

Imo, yes. It is perfectly suited to shakey head and drop shot, and will work for a ned rig. I have two in my boat and they are the ones I use most of the time.

I agree the 703 is very versatile.
