Has anyone fished shorelines west of town? Going to try to find some smallmouth in big water in some of the rocky coves. Any advice tips appreciated.

Always wanted to...never have. Also there is a sandbar damn near in the middle of the channel right where the ferry boats cross to the island, about 20 fow im told, must be 300 plus around it, lol
Looked at it a million times, never done it though.
There has to be fish out there, they are all over the Great Lakes. If you find them, they will be gigantic and very very unintelligent. Water will be very cold still.
Gonna give it shot!!
Yes, they most likely have never seen a dropshot before
We were up there june 2nd and the water in the straights area was in the upper 40s still. Prolly on beds right now

Go out to wilderness state park, Waugoshance Point and wade! Use to be lots of smallies there but I haven't been there in a long time. Plenty of opportunities on the drive out there from Mackinaw city too. It's usually a July thing as the water takes a long time to warm up.
I'm going to launch from wilderness state park and run to Cecilia bay.
Be very careful running around out there, lots of shoals and giant boulders! Enjoy your trip, it's beautiful up there!
Lots of dead water, but we did find a few 5-6 lb fish. Was beautiful fishing.
That's awesome, good to hear.
I will have to put it on my list.
You should know that in bee tending if you don't shut your trap the bees will get out.
