    have a break off problem

set up is 30# braid(power pro) to 6# mono(bass pro excel) 7'3'' medHvy spinning with VMC Octopus hooks fishing 4 inch sanko waky style

so i have been breaking off above the hook when i give a hard short hook set so i tried to just reel into them and it works till they jump and it comes out, should i try 8# or go with bigger floro makes me wonder if the rod is too stiff and is not taking the stock from hook set away

Personally, I would go up to 8lb flouro and a down to at least a medium rod.

With the braid mainline you don't need a hard hookset at all. My best luck is with a quick snap set, its not hard though with zero stretch from the braid and minimal from the short mono/fluoro you don't need it hard.

i guess you would call it a uni knot and have used it forever but instead of going though the loop 5 to 6 times i only go 3 and i still get the figure 8 out of it

Are you breaking off at the hook or the leader connection?

Set up a rod with no leader next time and see if you get less bites

leader even measured original length and then broken length and breaking 6 to 8 inches above hook

No stretch in braid. I experienced the same deal. I now use a longer leader and try not to swing as hard. You might try a different hook as well.

Shouldnt be a hard hook set. Spinning with light line and proper size hook should literally be a lift and reel. Keep pressure on the fish. Kind of like ice fishing.

Reel down hard on them, then lift up. Shouldn't actually set the hook. For what it's worth, I throw senkos on 12lb fluoro on casting rods, or 12lb nanofil and 12lb leader (fluoro) on spinning. Either way, I can set the hook hard and don't break anything. Only thing I have 4lb fluoro for is ned rig fishing, and that's just because the hooks are needle thin so it doesn't take much to pierce the fish.

    Rod action is too heavy.
Loosen the drag. If the drag doesn't slip when you do a moderate hookset, then the drag is too tight.
Sweeping hookset, or some of the others above are what you want.
    Thin wire hook is good.
The line is breaking at the knot; it's the stretch of the mono that is making you think it's breaking 6" above the hook.

This. And unless you are in some 10+ft clarity water you wont see any difference in bites between 6-8 lb line (even then you might not)

The suggestion to try a lighter wire hook is a good one too, many guys use too stout of a hook and then don't get good penetration and loose fish on the jumps.
