Agreed. When I was younger I lived the sound of dual exhausts but now can't stand them.

What did you expect him to say?

    This free motor sucks?

Loud outboards are OK once in a while, but make a long run and your ears will be ringing for the rest of the day.

Don’t get that gained 3 mph comment by KVD. My friend has a new Z521L with 250 Pro XS V8 4-Stroke. Much quieter, but does have a “throatier” sound as KVD said. Still being broken in, but so far it’s about 3 mph slower than his old Z521 with 250 Pro XS 2-Stroke. That being said, the 521L is said to be heavier and a bit slower than the other 521 hulls. KVD runs a Nitro so . . . .

Most of the results I've heard is 1 mph increase over the Optimax. But maybe KVD used the same gauge to read his speed increase, as he used to get him mpg in his Toyota.

The sound is behind you? You must have one fast rig.

Don't matter, if you are moving, it's behind you....or do you have your exhaust mounted on the front of the bike so the wind & motion blow the sound waves into your face ???

Example....if a motorcycle is behind you, you may hear him, depending on how annoying his exhaust is.........but if he passes you or is ahead of you, you will hear him.

He might have gained 3 mph. The extra torque should be able to handle the heavy loads these guys run better than the 2s. The 2018 pro xs numbers seem to be weaker than previous years too.

The L boats are looking slower than the C's. I think 74 is about the best I've seen reported on the 520 but most are barely cracking 70 loaded

Even with my optimax i have always found the wind noise to be FAR louder than the engine itself. I never understood the conversation while running cuz its so quiet comment. They must be in the no wake zone then. No matter what voice the motor has the wind isnt goong away unless your boat has a full cab.

Yep. Seems the last few years of the 250 optis havnt been as strong as the early years. I think the tune has gradually been toned down. I love my opti its a great engine but these new v8s are very cool IMO.

Wasn’t my point, Yes the engine or the operator of another vehicle is behind you but they are traveling slower than the speed of sound. If I am at one end of the lake and I see a boat coming towards me I hear them well before they get to me. So saying it’s not safe because the sound is behind you doesn’t make sense.

Sounds like a good marketing plan, gradually detune the last couple of year models and when the totally new engine comes out, it will be better than the old model. Put the new 300 v8 up against a 300x and see how it stands up.

well I know I have more of a chance of getting out of the way of something I hear coming vs something I do not hear coming and just appears so IMO I would say the statement loud pipes save lives is true!

I think I would be more surprised if he came out and said he hated it..i mean he's only sponsored by Mercury and all...he would love it if it weighed 700lbs as well.
