Contiplating repowering with the new Mercury 200HP V6

Anyone got one that could push some pros and cons. I will be putting it on a 2001 Ranger 518 DVX... Many Thanks, Dave 910-978-3849

Come on Dave, you know you want the V8.

If you plan to keep you boat long term I'd go for it. I'd love to have the 175 on mine but I know as soon as I get a bigger garage I'm going boat shopping.

So you think I should do the V8 Pro XS? If so, what pros and cons..

No question about it. If you're going to repower, and have a 200hp rating, use the 200 ProXS V-8 model.

There is no replacement for Displacement.

Ha, yeah. I’m a trouble maker. Just take me for a ride in it when you get it done. About the only con I can think of is the v8 might cost a little more. I bet it doesn’t weigh much more, if any, that the 200 you have on there now. A pro, for me anyway, is it should mean at idle. ;)

So Don, when would the V6 200 be preferred over the V8?

We just ordered a Bennington pontoon with a V6 200hp. The ProXS wasn't an option.

I have the same boat single console and I'm seriously considering the V8. Waiting to read more feedback from other people that have one.

Go with the Pro XS all day long! The V6 will be quieter at startup although the V8 Pro XS sounds throaty when idling. The V6 is around 30 pounds lighter. For repowering a Bass Boat, that V8 Pro XS will make your boat easier to sell whenever you decide to. I’ve driven them both and unquestionably you will want the Pro XS. Just my opinion but the Pro XS looks better too!

How does the performance of the v8 pro xs compare to the current 6cyl verado 200?

Lighter- and the displacement different makes for a little better torque.

Until production is able to catch up with demand, you'll need to ORDER an engine in order to get one.

Do you think it has more torque than the L6 verado?

Yes, especially in the idle-5500 RPM range.
