Should a hose be connected to this tee?

2005 150hp xr6 sn 1B070546. Noticed a brass 3way tee with an end with no hose attached coming off the oil reservoir on the starboard side. Did something fall off or is this port normally open? The tee is brass. Tried to upload a photo but won't seem to upload

Be SURE to hook it up correctly!
I bout a blown motor for parts and upon inspection I noticed it was hooked up the wrong way on the blown motor, and believe that is the reason the motor blew.
