    1995 P2 w/175 hp

What kind of performance would I see with a Mercury 175hp with 23p prop?

I saw 62 gps with a 94 PII with a 150xri with a lazer II prop. Guy that bought it from me raised the motor 1 1/2" and put a 24"p tempest on it and got 67 out of it. These numbers are light as I know my 62 was just me and a light load. My motor had been described as a 'hot motor' by my mechanic. I would think at least 2 or 3 mph more depending on height.

I currently have a 1989 Mercury 150 XR4 w/a 23p prop and hitting 50 mph on a good day. The motor just seems to be dogging. I am looking at going bigger and I found a Mercury 175 hp for a decent price and just wondering if it would be a good investment for performance.

50 is definitely dogging it. You should be doing much better. As long as the motor is running right sounds like a setup issue. Also, pretty sure the Lazer II prop I had was a 24p. Your 23p might be the issue but not an expert here. Higher pitch is like a higher gear.
