Gen1 and Gen2 were some of the best. Gen3 had some issues that were fixed with later production. Gen4, well....dayum Im loving them!

A Gen1 STX-L was one of my first baitcast reels. I keep it spooled with 40# braid and used it every trip I took to Florida until I got so many reels I switched it out just so I could try others. Some of my longest ever casts were with this reel. I have a Gen1 and Gen2 Premier. Many people felt at the time that the Gen2 Premier was the best reel in its price range. I've had the Gen1 out twice and the Gen2 not at all yet. Not because I don't like the reels, but because I was on a buying spree for awhile and have several rods and reels that haven't seen water yet.

    Yep,
    Like Capt1fish said, bullet proof.

Still have 6 STX's that I use all the time. Had them supertuned right after I bought them and they have been flawless.

I have my gen 1 STX. You wouldnt know the kind of reel if you didn't already know. I've worn the paint off the thing and it still cast and reels like new. I think it was bought in 2005-6ish. Only reel i have that has lasted that long and thats with zero service to it if you don't count having it cleaned or had the pawl replaced because of use
