Going from 6 pole to 8 pole aerator switch...

I have an aerator switch that quit working, so I ordered a new one from Ranger. What they sent was an 8 pole switch to replace the original 6 pole that came with the boat. When I installed the new switch, I mirrored the connections from the old one to the new, using poles 1 thru 6, 7 and 8 not being used. That idea was short lived, am now wondering if the new switch needs to be wired differently. Has anyone come across this situation, and if so, would please give me some insight as what would work. Thanks, Bill

Example of numbering system on new switch next to blades. Old switch has no numbers whatsoever.

Was the original switch a simple on/off or was it a 3 position on/off/on?

Did the old switch have an indicator light to tell you that the switch was on?

Does the new switch have a light?

OverRHeads, switch is 3 position on/off/on. Huntertn, both lights have an indicator light. I have a 6 pole from a friend and the aerator is working. Thanks for the replies.
