    2000 Yamaha Vmax 150 Overheating

I am working on a 2000 Skeeter that has been setting 10+ years. The engine only has about 100 hours on it. I replaced the impeller and I am getting water out of the pee hole on the back of power unit. The problem i am having is a overheat alarm. This is my first time working on a boat. Plz help!

Is it in the water or are you running it on the hose? CJ

I was running it on the hose with single inlet muffs.

I pulled the thermostats and tested them, and they are opening and closing in 140°+ water.

something to look at is the poppet valve, my Prov would sound the overheat alarm when idling, new valve and spring cured it. There is a good doityourself if you search yamaha poppet valve in this forum.

YES, Check the poppet valve first.

I have had so many problems running large outboards on a hose that I built a tank to submerge the lower unit. I would suggest this first. Lake/tank ect. CJ

Thanks for all of the advice. I will try running it with the lower unit submerged in a trash can. I went Ahead and ordered all of the parts to change out the poppet as well.
