Update on learning to drive my xb 2003.

Newish owner here with approximately 30 hrs experience with a 1995 xb2003/1995 225 promax efi with a fresh rebuild. A 25 trophy plus, 9" plate and 1/4" below pad
Last year after the motor was broken in I had a hard time between 60 and 70 then it moved on up to 70 to 80.0. I ran 84 for a second at about 7200 rpm's with a lot of trim left.
I now have a 28 trophy on the boat and finally got 81 mph yesterday, 5900 rpm and little to no trim. I believe this is about the max for this set up unless I had a 10 mile stretch of good water to run in.
I'm looking forward to trying out my 27 trophy plus I think it will be the ticket.

Assuming the motor is healthy, 90 mph should be very possible. Mine ran 87.8 with a 200 Promax and 97.1 with a 225X. Those were lightly loaded but the 225X would run 91-92 with 2 pretty good size people in it.

I had a 28 trophy and it was terrible. I am told the 28 is mot the same blade as the 26, 27.....My 26 ET was the best handling fastest prop I owned. Never ran a 28 et.

Bought one for my old 2003-- ran it twice -- second time was just to make sure.

big o tom, You need to install a 14" Allison manual jack plate on your 2003, handling and speed will be much better. Stick with the 1/4" below even with more set back unless the lip has been modified.
The 27 Trophy will be much better, the 28's, well let's just say they don't work.
A 30p Lightning ET is the ultimate prop on your boat with the 225 PM in my opinion.

Yes. I really liked a 27 trophy on several of my xb2003s with 200s & 225X and a 30 lightning ET was the fastest prop I ran on my xb2003/225X. But my favorite all around prop was a small barrel hydromotive quad IV 27. It was the sweetest handling prop I've ever ran and was within 2 mph of the ET on top end. I could run 90-92 with a fishing load every day if the conditions were decent. In cool temps and great conditions, a little better.

I like my xb03 better with a hyd jackplate,it actually responds better to motor height bumps than trim, i ran it with a 200efi and 1.75 gears and 28p ally cut chopper, it would hit limiter to soon, but was only 6050 factory motorola box. With my 250xb on 300 promax chassis i took it out for it's first run last week, it ran 70mph @5k ,nice and smooth, with lots left, same 28p chopper and 1.75 unconed TM. In the process now of coning a TM case, before i get too crazy over 80.i used to over trim mine and get crazy chinewalk. I've learned to bump motor height,@1/4 trim til water press. Drops, then bump trim , for a more stable ride.i ran 14" setback with 2.5,same 12bobs hyd. Plate, less spacers for the 3l. My 250xb has 300 heads and 300pm ign. Ecu. I only fish with mine,i changed it to center steer, and it made a huge difference in handling for me,plus easier to get in/out of it.
