For Those of You Considering Raising Your SHO...

Something to think about when it comes to raising your SHO.
Some of you know my setup. I had 2" spacers on, they are now off. But, I left my SHO in the lowest hole, meaning, it is raised as far as it will go on jack plate.
Well, I just got back from Lake St Clair, and luckily the water was only 1-2 foot waves which the 921/SHO handled perfectly, of course.

But that got me thinking, that even tho having the motor raised to bottom hole to make it easier on the jack plate not having to be so high...If I would have been in waves higher that 2 footers, the motor would have been coming out of the water even with JP as low as it will go.
So, for those of you that are thinking about raising your SHO, if you run bigger water, you may not even want to raise it to the 2nd to bottom hole.

Just wanted to give you a heads up....I seldom go to bigger water, so Im going to leave mine in bottom hole...for now anyways.

That's why I don't move mine. We have a lot of rough water and being able to bury the motor helps a TON on the ride

I run a lot of rough water and there is plenty of range on my Bobs to bury it when necessary. I'm in the second to last hole and running a 4 blade.

Doesn't an atlas has a 5" range of adjustment? If you're even with the pad all the way up you can bury to 5" below. If 5" below is coming out of the water I don't think 5.75 below is going to make a difference

If I didn't misunderstand, and you're prop is even with pad when your jack plate all the way up, then your motor is mounted on your jp lower than mine. Yes that 5" would bury the motor plenty for what I was talking about.
My prop is even with pad just over half way up on my Bob's jackplate. That was the reason I raised my motor...less stress on the jp at wot when motor is up to run. So when I was running 2 foot waves, my motor was buried less than yours. That would be more than 2 inches less, I think...which I guess you're right, even 1.5-2" doesn't sound like much in comparison to 3 foot plus waves. So maybe I would be ok in larger waves.

But... if I lived there, I would feel better on Lake St Clair/Erie having my motor a couple holes lower. (factory setting) I don't really have much experience on water like that. I was just making an observation that I thought may help someone.

This motor toter is called a Moto Stop. It slides over the rams, then lower motor till it touches and stops. You also need to use steering blocks, but good ones come with it.
