triton 21HP "The Good, Bad and Ugly"

Hey guys need ya help, what is the good, bad and ugly about the triton 21HP and 21HP Elite? I have heard they are rough riders but are super fast? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Savage I have drove some of the old TR21 like the 03 model, is it much different than that?

Had a 2009 20 HP with a 250 Pro XS and loved it. Managed 80mph by myself, 1/2 tank of gas. Tournament load with my partner we were doing 76.9. Still miss that boat but the new 21TRX is getting close. Buddy of mine had the 21HP and he was getting 85 with a 250XS. And yes you have to learn to drive them!

Not as slow as the XS hull. The XS is a nice smooth and dry ride but a lot slower than the HP due to the weight.

I have a 13 21XS, 250 Merc. I dont know about all this slow talk. There is not a boat in west MI that will out run me. I run over 70 any time, any place with a T load. Great hole shot, Great ride, Great speed. 25 fury.

How is yours set up? I just got a 14 20XS with 250 with 25 Fury 3 blade, 10 inch manual jack plate set at 2.5 inches I'm only running 68.9 GPS. Don't know if it makes a difference but it's got 2 10ft poles.

The XS is a better ride but slower, my 06 hp was a solid 76-79 mph boat . the 21xs is a bigger hull than the hp ,you couldn't go wrong with either

Well I found a 2009 21x3 Pro my buddy has and I think I can get it for 28,000. The motor has just over 300 hours, is this a good buy?

The 21 XHP does not ride rough at all, as a matter of fact I think it may have a softer ride than the 21 TRX, just as good for sure, I have a 2012 and a 2017 that I get to compare rides with.

Nothing bad about that hull. One of the best if not THE BEST. I have a buddy with a 08 21HP. It will run 78+ with the right driver input. I would jack it up off the bunks and check it for blistering before buying any boat in that year range.

Excellent advice. Some people are particular about jacking against the fiberglass or may not have enough wood scrap around to spread the load. You may have better luck asking the owner to stop 12-18” short of the roller and pulling the boat out of the water long enough for you to have a look. I wouldn’t make an offer on the boat without doing one or the other however.

these models are notorious for having blisters only where the bunk carpet sits against the hull. Glad you were able to lift it up or stop it off the bunks far enough to check. Sure wish I had done that on my 2008.
