Not sure which you are referring to......the 3.5 Eco or the 2.7 Eco. I had a 15 2.7 in the 6 speed. Mine had 33x1250's on it. So, it only got about 17mpg all the time when not towing. Towing I only did about 9mpg. But, I live in the hills of SW Missouri and we usually don't do quite as good as the flat landers do. Again, keep in mind I had big wheels and tires. But, the 2.7 towed my 20' bass boat and my 24' deckboat with NO issues. I now have a 17 with the 3.5 Eco 10 speed running 305x12's on it. I get 15.5 not towing and about 10mpg towing. The 2.7 did just as good until I got on big hills running 75mph. The 3.5 does those much better when towing. Honestly, the 2.7 had a lot more low end zip and was more fun to drive. I'd get another 2.7 in a heartbeat if I wasn't going to tow anything bigger than a bass boat. I have clients running 2.7's with stock 20's getting 23 mph hwy and 18 city. It's an impressive motor!!

I have an 18 F150 with the 3.5L and 10 spd 3.31 gears. On a recent trip from Michigan to Maine and back I averaged anywhere from 11 mpg to 13.8 mpg. Had a fair amount of misc. packed into the bed of the truck, probably about 500 lbs. and the Skeeter in tow. The lower end was due to headwinds I believe, and the upper was due to tailwind. I would figure about 12 mpg at highway speed. (70 - 75 mph)

For the most part I locked out the top two gears (9 & 10) and ran in 8th gear. When I got into the steep grades I would lock down to 7th gear. There was zero hunting when I did this.

    70 mph = 2,200 - 2,300 rpms in 7th and about 1,900 - 1,950 rpms in 8th.
    75 mph = 2,400 - 2,500 rpms in 7th and about 2,000 - 2,100 rpms in 8th

I just got a 2018 Ford F150 FX4 with the 3.5L Ecoboost and 10 speed Tranny. 3.55 gears because of the heavy duty towing package. Strictly on the highway, running 70mph, no towing, I got 22mpg only turning 1500 RPM in 10th gear. I have not towed my Sabre with this truck yet, but had the 3.5 in a 2015 6 speed, 2wd, 3.55 gears, and would get high 16's to low 17's pulling at 70 mph. That's pulling a 2017 BassCat Sabre FTD AE with dual consoles, single axle trailer, 33 gallons of fuel, lots of tackle, MK Fortrex, and a 175 SHO.

I think I'll likely lose 1mpg with the FX4. As far as the 3.5 eco engine, there are NO worries about enough power. It puts out more HP/TQ than the V8.
