    Merc stalled while idling

Anybody experience this? Had it happen for the first time on my 2017 721. Checked the bulb and it was soft.

I’ve heard of quite a few people having this happen in their pheonix, don’t think the gas tank is vented right

I think someone mentioned a run of bad bulbs. That may be the issue

Once or twice...that's how I learned the gas gauge is not accurate

I’d like to know if this has ever been tied back to the tank. Changed mine and it’s still doing it.

It may not be the bulb. It may be a gasket leak at the pulse pump. Take the cowling off and check for gas leaking around the pulse pump while pumping the bulb.

My 2015 721 is in the shop right now for the same issue. This is the second time. It is interesting to hear how many people experience the same thing. I will post if the problem gets figured out.

Merc did have a bad run of diaphragms at one time but I don't think it would stall the motors. I don't think it's a tank issue or more people would have the issue and it would go across brands. It could be a bad run of bulbs, which means the new one could still be from that bad run

Mine is in the shop right now and found a torn diaphragm on the engine. It was idling really bad and would stall on me, but ran fine once i got it up on step. Engine only has around 50 hours on it.

I have 125 hours on my boat, and only had it happen once. Later that day, I idled a lot graphing and it never happened again. Very strange, I guess I'll have to see what happens this weekend at my tournaments, hopefully no issues. At least it doesn't disable the engine.

The first sign of mine was it wouldn't start on the first try. Then it took three times to start. Then I had to feather the gas to start and it would start idling rough. Once on pad it was fine til one day it wouldn't get over 3k rpms. It started the whole not wanting to start again last weekend.

Mine was doing the exact same thing, had it at 3 different places and Charles at mare of aquia found a loop in the fuel hose from the tank causing air to get trapped in the loop
he cut the loop out and rerouted the hose correctly and mine has been ok for about 3 years now with no issues

so is this a Merc issue or Phoenix? To me it seems like a Merc issue, but I'm no mechanic..........not even close.

The diaphragms are a merc issue. They have had this issue for the past few years. Supposedly they got a bad batch of them. Not sure how much I believe that but That's what they say.

Having close to the same problem, my 2017 200 Pro X/S was running ok, set under a bridge for 30 minute waiting out a storm. Then it would fire, run real rough for a few seconds and then die. after the 3rd attempt to start it, it backfired, dang near wet myself. used TM to get to dock, glad I was near, let it set for a few minutes, try to start it and the same, would fire, run real rough for a few seconds then die. In the shop, been at the dealer for 2 weeks and they haven't even got it in to look at it.

Yours sounds like the all too common tracker valve in the Merc fuel rail system.
