Repeating a good tip to keep electronic screens clean

I read sometime back that best way to keep your electronic screens clean was a mixture of distilled vinegar and water at 50/50 followed up with a microfiber towel.

I keep a small spray bottle and microfiber cloth in a ziplock bag in the boat. Takes two seconds and works like a charm at quickly and easily removing water spots, stains etc... I often will use it a couple times during a trip.

Just thought i would re pass it on as it is such a good tip!

watch using a 50/50 mix. too acidic for the screen material. I use a 5-1 water/white vinegar mix. works well!

Thanks for clarifying that OhioChamp, you are right my mixture is more like 1 to 4. I was not thinking clearly when I was typing.

    Still works great!

I am not sure why, but I have read on numerous forums not to use Rainx? Can’t see how it would hurt, but who knows. The vinegar/distilled water does not streak, dries quickly and just works!

Windex with vinegar is what Humminbird recommends. That’s what I use.

Windex w/Vinegar! Works perfect, and H-Bird approves.

Better read your owners manual first. My Lowrance says 50-50 alcohol and distilled water.

I have been using 50/50 vinegar and water on my screens for at least 15 years. Store bought vinegar is only a weak 5% acetic acid, so when you dilute it 1:1, it becomes only a 2.5% acid.

Rain-X will cloud the plastic. It is meant to be used on glass.

I use whatever i have on hand, but in bright sunlight I can see where a good cleaner would help. Now if I can get that black spot off the screen where my back seat man hit it with a jig.

Garmin says to apply an eyeglass lens cleaner that is safe for anti-reflective coatings to a soft lint free cloth and wipe the screen clean. Also cleaners containing ammonia will harm the anti-reflective coatings on the screens.
