I always liked the 198 top cap better than the 200. Yes, the 200 had deeper boxes but the 198 looked better.

They must be talking about the 2004 models, because from what I can tell my 198 looks exactly like the Charger 198.

My 08 198 does not have that top cap look in the rear area.

No, 198 Elite was first, then 200 then 202, all 19'8". I don't know all the changes between them other than the 200 & 202 had the taller 210 style top cap. Early 200s had a hook built into the pad, but later ones had it removed, 202s didn't have it. 08 198 was a CX model. Once the 200 was introduced, it was the Elite and the 198 became a CX.

Robert, did the original 198 have a solid run of foam from the front to back or did it have boxed sections? Any chance you guys have pictures of it torn apart? I’m asking because I have an issue with mine and would like to see what I’m dealing with.

I know that. I was asking if Charger used a 200 or 202 elite to make their 198. the Charger 198 has the same rounded weird sloping rear end of the 210 and 200/202 elite which were stratos influence design cues if i remember correctly.

I figured it was a 198, but robert m or Kelly could tell you for sure. Looking back at the 1st page of this thread, I see what you're talking about and think you're right. It does appear to have the later top cap.

Overall i am very happy with what charger has done with the 198, and i would buy one in a heart beat. i love the foot blocks with storage. that is a very nice update. the enlarged step up cooler is a nice improvement as well. i like the new switch panels at the console and bow. integrated nav lights on the bow is a cool feature. looks like you can flush mount a 12" graph on the bow if it is the same as the 210. what else the passenger glove box is a good idea. no one boat can have it all.

Either way it is cool with me. i am just glad to see my favorite boats still alive in some capacity.

the top cap is a 210 cut down and widened a bit in spots to fit the 198 hull . i took off the rounded rear corners to make it match the 198 hull
