    Bad Fuel Lines!

Fairly new here and from reading many posts about deteriorating fuel lines I thought I would replace mine from the bulb to engine. Found this.
Luckly I wasn't having any problems. I occasionally run from Marinette to Little Sturgeon Bay....would have really sucked to be bobbin around out in the middle of Green Bay powerless caused by a preventable problem. Lesson learned....SWITCH OUT THOSE OLDER FUEL LINES!!
I've had this boat about 2.5 years....it's a 2003 so I don't really know how old the bad line was. I've only run "good gas".

Yep, looks like bad fuel lines!

On a serious note, good thought to replace them, good catch, and excellent advice for others who haven't done it yet!

As recommended by mechanic of 30 years I always use Stabil and have never had any problems with “bad” gas. However, I had a fuel line that was about 10 years old that must have had some minuscule cracks in it. Motor would run for a minute or so then die. Pump the bulb and would get another minute or so before it died. Must have been sucking air in thru the cracks. Replaced the fuel line - problem solved. Cheap fix ! FYI.

That's nasty!! Reminds me of those early 80s Honda Motorcycles I used to bring back to life.

Do they sell a kit with all needed lines and the primer bulb?

If you haven't, already, get into the VST on the engine. Fished this out of mine...

...the inner layer of the fuel line, broken down a bit further than OP's photo.

Mine didn't get that bad but I had a fuel line that cracked just before the motor. I noticed my boat was using way too much oil and the mechanic found the problem was the fuel line sucking in air at the crack. Less than $95 to get a new bulb and fuel line and I was on my way.

You can buy bulk hose and bulb at your Mercury dealer. I only needed 18 inches of 5/16 and 7 feet of 3/8. I asked the guy at the parts counter how much money those old lines had made them over the years....he just looked up and smiled.

Wow being that my boat is 10 years old now I'm guessing I should change mine. Been having a few starting issues in the last few trips.
