Insulating live well and cooler lids

My sister-in-law works for the cath lab at a hospital, and came by last night with something interesting. It was an insulated box which she said the hospital receives refrigerated medical supplies in, and they just throw them away. It was a cardboard box, that had removable insulation, and two very heavy duty ice packs which were still frozen despite sitting in her hot car all day. The ice packs are perfect for the built in cooler on my Stratos, and are the equivalent of a bag of ice. These could also be put in the live wells to keep the water cool. I removed the insulation from the box, trimmed it to the size of my cooler and live well lids, then stuck it to the lids with double sided foam tape.

Great idea !!! I've been thinking of putting Styrofoam under my lids for a long time too.

You can get similar stuff at Lowes in 4x8 sheets in house insulation area, foam with one side foil. Cut it tight to fit in livewell lid and no adhesive needed. Mine has held up for about 10 yrs.

I bet you could take a windshield sun shield and use that material. Looks the same as that foil cooler stuff.

That stuff is awesome! I used some to line the inside of my portable Otter ice shelter. Amazing how much heat it reflects and keeps inside in the winter.

I use the cooler in my Triton as a trash can. I place a soft sided cooler in the box behind the passenger seat.
