    Broken Seat Base

Noticed two tournaments ago that front seat post looked to be leaning backwards. Next tournament the base failed and almost dumped me over backwards. Hated to do it but cut the carpet and removed the old base to find that a weld had failed in the mount. Luckily Champion used all stainless hardware to mount the base so it all came apart easily. The base was covered over with something hard and yellowish colored.

Question is: Is it Bondo, fiberglass or just carpet glue?

I need get a new base put in and try to piece in carpet before my next tournament

Was the seat base installed with screws or somehow thru-bolted? I've been wanting to remove mine but the screws feel like they have a nut on the bottom.

The seat base was thru bolted. Luckily there was a porthole cut into the front of the center hatch which allowed easy access to the bottom of the base.

I took some of the material that was over the base to a body shop and they verified that it was not bondo. Manager at West Marine said was bedding compound
