I noticed my TM definitely has gotten weaker the last few times out. I’m wondering if I should try new batteries first but trying to not spend money unnecessary.

How old are the batteries, and have you checked their voltage?
Not usually. It can however have something that goes wrong that will cause a loss of power. That includes water in the lower unit, bad electrical connections, breaker not carrying the load (comes under bad connections) and aging batteries.

My second Terrova had a gabillion miles on it. After replacing with a new Terrova I was amazed at how much less power was needed on the new one as compared to the old one while fishing under the same conditions. Which also equated to a lot less battery discharge.
