So the previous owner made some pad customizations that I had to correct....

I think you get the idea... soooo... some Marine Tex and a good amount of hand work.... here's how it looks now..

I think you get the idea again lol...

Needless to say in this experience I have to say the complexity of the pad is amazing... I did all of it mostly by feel and attempted to maintain the lines.... I think it came out great!

Ya done good!!! I had to do some gel work myself from the current owner (ME) a year or so ago. Long Pad gouge and took a chunk the size of a half dollar out of the nose of the bow. Ya get good at it when it's self inflicted and no one around who can do it locally

Yes, marine tex works great, I've used it on deeper gouges like yours. But what I've used in the past on long straight gouges on the pad of mine is gel with a fiber mixed in from Allison. Can't remember the name of the fiber stuff but what it does basically is make it a bit more like a moist paste rather than a liquidy substance and easier to "fill" in an area. And the best part about this mixture is that it's the same white gel from Allison as the color of my boat. Marine tex is a whiter white than our gel.

I used marine tex to fill in the exposed fiberglass and core material after removing my brass bilge flange so I could install the flo rite remote drain plug. the hole needed to be minimum 1" diameter which it was not with the brass insert. I removed the insert, ground out the hole to larger than a 1" diameter then filled in and smoothed out the exposed area with marine tex. That stuff is like steel when it hardens.

Micro-fibers? Your suggestion work well also Craig.

Cabosil mixed in with gel makes a nice putty like mixture.

cab-o-sil I found it on jamestown distributors. that's the stuff. It is a thickening agent for filling.

Yes Lee, it does work great for filling in areas that are not just a painted surface.
