Was out fishing this weekend hit a log at idle speeds, I now have water in lower unit and my prop spins freely, took prop off and shaft still spins free. Any ideas, lower unit shot?

Was out fishing this weekend hit a log at idle speeds, I now have water in lower unit and my prop spins freely, took prop off and shaft still spins free. Any ideas, lower unit shot?
broke the prop shaft more than likely as well as damaged the seal. Carrier could be broke, too. Only way to fix or see if it can be fixed is to open up and see what happened.

I miss read that. Take a object and put it as close to the prop as possible. Turn it slowly and see if the prop hits the object at any spot. Take prop off check for string . Restall and run it. Look for water in lower unit.

Is the prop shaft spinning with the outboard engaged in forward and reverse?
yes forward, reverse and neutral
Pinion gear is likely gone.
