Saw a P2 on the serial number page built with a 150.
Curious as to what these perform like with 150/175 ?

I had a 94 model with a 150 Mercury. The best I could get with a light load was 57-58 mph. with a full fuel tank, live wells full and two people about 54-55 mph plus you had to get the passenger up front to get it out of the hole. Really needs the 200 IMO. Hope this helps.
I think the MLF Panteras were rigged with 150s and they did not complain!

They most run in the upper 50's and in our opinion they are great for learners and youth. The older Bassmaster days saw only 150 HP max until 1996 season, and those rigs were fine with 60 MPH ranges being the maximum. Most competitive big boats then with 150 engines ran between 47 and 52 MPH. There were other boats which ran into the 60 MPH class and a few that would touch into the 70's with 150 engines.
Thanks all. Sold my old R 360 series. I’ve run 370 and 360 series R brands with 150’s
only in all my years fishing. Looking at classic, P2 or Caracal and a little apprehensive
about ‘driving’ these 19 footers over 70. I’ve lived around 61 for the most part for 15 years

That new 3.4 liter Mercury 175 Pro XS V6 4 Stroke might be a good engine for you on the P2. A Caracal is a smooth driving boat at 70 with a 225.

That likely will be a great engine.
Dad's '94 Classic did an indicated 69mph on the speedo with a light load, solo in good conditions (I'm sure it was a little off) it had a Suzuki Bass 150, no jackplate and 25" Trophy. Never found another boat with a 150 that could touch it, except a Bullet.
I had a 94 P2 with a 93 150 xri. Best I saw was 62 GPS. Guy who bought it from me raised the motor 1 1/2" and put a 24p tempest on it (from what I think was a Lazer II 23 or 24p cant remember pitch) and he says he's getting 67. I was shocked when he told me that. Had to sell it last October. Got good $ for it. I'm boatless bank trash now. I really miss it.

I have a 96 PII with a faststrike, 62 Gps was my best, but normally ru about 57.
All this discussion and we have a new situation.
Now Mercury has a spread.
150 > in line 4 cylinder
175 > V6 3 ltr block
200 > V8 4 ltr block
Range is now available...
I had a 96 PII DC with a Mariner 150. I spent a lot of time getting everything right and it would consistently run into the mid 60s. Passed many a PII with a poorly set up 200 and they all swore I had "done something to the motor" or I had changed out the cowling.
Personally, I'd opt for the 200. You can always go slower and get better fuel economy, but when the need for speed is there, you'll have it. Plus, it helps to have the maximum HP if you ever sell the boat.

150 > in line 4 cylinder = 4 GALLONS OF GAS A DAY
175 > V6 3 ltr block = 5 GALLONS OF GAS A DAY
200 > V8 4 ltr block = 8 GALLONS OF GAS A DAY
(NOT REAL NUMBERS) But some times I miss my inline 4s merc. Thing was very easy on the gas in my sabre and still touched 62, with a 23p temptest
I believe the 4s, 175 sho is a 4 cyl too... that might be the ticket get ya into the low 60s I bet on tournament day but still not use any fuel exploring.

Gawd those are ugly!!!
I think they look pretty mean. I like them.
It is a 2.8L 4 cylinder and has been as fast as 72 iirc on a Sabre when light and in good conditions, so I'd expect better than low 60s as mine has been 61 with 3 adults and gear with 150hp. Here's Yamaha's results that show 68 with full tank, 2 adults and gear in average weather...
