    Rod question

Just so you know, I've never built a rod before so this is all new to me.
I bought a used kit on here awhile back.

The he first rod I want to build (or try to build) is a glass rod. I can't decide between a 7' and a 7'6 medium rod (MHX from MudHole). If I can't decide if I want the full 7'6" or not.... Can I cut 3" off the butt end and just have a 7'3"?

    I'm liking the 7ft 3in or 7ft 4in now a days …

I have had some custom rods built that were shortened on the butt end.

no problem shortening from the butt end. You can tip trim, but a little goes a long way, so be careful if you tip trim.

You can get use a dremmel type tool with a cutting wheel. Shorting the blank from the butt end will change the power rating of the blank

I always put a wrap of tape where i make the cut. I have used my dremel, a hacksaw, a band saw, tube cutter, and chop saw, all work equally well if you go slow.

Pretty much what everyone else has said, dremel tool with tape to cut and 3" isn't going to change the power enough for you to even notice. I never cut the tip on a graphite rod but often do on a glass rod...not much but on a M I will usually take off from 3/4" to an inch and a half. Depends on what I want to use it for. Best spinnerbait rod I ever built was an older Seeker BS706 with 3" off the butt and an inch off the tip.
