    Sudden power loss and surging

Fished a new river today. Boat ran fine to first spot. Fished for 2 hours. Started engine and let it warm up. Hit a shallow spot at idle in gear and killed engine, trimmed up and restarted. Got on plane and couldn't get past 4k and it's surging. Seemed to get worse as the day went on. Prop had very little damage. Pushed choke in and did not pick up. Could it be a coincidence that i just happen to bottom out and then have an electrical problem?? Thanks in advance.

Could be a LU problem, Call insurance company and tell them what happened then get a pro to check it out.

Update. Haven't been able to do anything cause of work. Took it out after fresh plug change on Lake Michigan. Idled through the creek and once i got out on the lake let her rip. Started to plane at about 4k then did the same thing. Tried once more but was worse and didn't touch 4k. Calling insurance now. Hope it's not major.

Pull the prop off and check the splines, make sure you didn't twist the prop shaft. If good take it back out and when you hit the magical 4K push in on the key and see if it picks up or dies. If it picks up you've got a fuel delivery issue if it bogs you have an electrical issue.

Pulled prop, Doesn't appear to be bent, perhaps not visible to the naked eye. Adjuster is out tomorrow so hopefully I will know something tomorrow. From what I was told they are looking for it to be out of wack more then 8 degrees. When I was out friday the key push did nothing. Fuel lines, VRO, and all carbs and bowls new in 15, Treatment ran in every tank, now using ethanol free fuel.

Perhaps partially sheared key in flywheel?

Got 5 3/8" bolts holding the flywheel to the crank. He'd have to whack it pretty good to snap them all.

Adjuster came today and measured prop shaft. its out 4 thousandths of an inch. According to him this is in factory spec? Looks like it's off the the shop to get diagnosed...

Insurance adjuster texted and said after the dyno it was a bad power pack and tbe optical sensor should be changed as well. He said the shop will be calling me soon.

Ordered these parts today, 0586292 and 0586343. Was told BRP had power pack on back order, got mine from elsewhere for A LOT better price. Same with the optical sensor.

Got boat back Monday, took on the big lake today and ran great. New power pack and optical sensor. Terpstras did a good job and were fast considering the time of year.
