    999 chip reading problem

My 999 has two slots for map chips. Only the slot on the right will read one. The left one will not read, and it seems like the chip locks in. Other than switching slots are there any other solutions to try.

Put a blank memory card in the left reader and take a snapshot.

No, just no maps on it and 32 GB or less.

When I put the card in on the right, it snaps in and stays in. When I put one in on the left slot, it goes all the way in, but comes back out a touch. It does not stay in like the other one. Will this help that stay in?

I don't have any blank memory cards so, I will have to go buy one to try this.

It has nothing to do with the card staying in place, just to see if the unit will write data to it to confirm the reader is working.
It should "lock" into place like the right side does.

That is something the factory will have to resolve if you want to expend the funds to get it fixed.
Do a Humminbird site search for flat rate repair charges.

Thanks, that is kinda what I thought. For now, I will just change chips when I change states. Thanks again.

Is my thinking wrong? I was understanding that I could put two maps chips in and use either one. But I was told that only the right slot will read a map chip, and the left slot is for a memory card. Is that info correct?

That is either a fantasy or an excuse.

My Helix 12 has two cards slots side by side and both read a map card.
My 1198's have two card slots side by side and both read a map card.
My SOLIX has two card slots side by side and both read a map card.
The 798ci SI Combo I used to have had two card slots side by side and both read a map card.
My ONIX has two cards slots one above the other and both read a map card.
